I am interested in connecting the domain of art with the world of the spectator. My large charcoal drawings of eyes, in the most elemental way, returns the gaze of the viewer. Like ancient artists, I see the eye as the window of the soul. In my drawings, I eliminate everything but the eye, trying to reveal their essential truths with empathy and poetry. The sources are photographs I have collected that resonate with me great emotion. They are rendered in the lush and direct medium of charcoal on large paper with expressive gestures that enhance their meaning to the viewer.
